Is Plastic Surgery Right for You?

Plastic surgery is a vast growing industry in the world.

There are two types of main plastic surgery: cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic surgery aims to enhance or improve the patient’s appearance. On the other hand, reconstructive surgery is to correct a physical feature which is deformed, or abnormal by society’s standards. Reconstructive surgery only addresses a deformed appearance due to a birth defect, trauma, or illness. Reconstructive surgery also attempts to improve the function of one’s abnormality.

Plastic surgery has psychological risk involved. For people who are seeking to improve their body to boost their self-esteem or confidence may do more harm than good. Often the correction of a perceived problem may only create more perceived problems. Then the person will want more procedures done. This symptom is not true for everyone though; others may start to feel more valued and accepted. There is also physical risk involved but you should ask your cosmetic surgeron or your plastic surgeron because each procedure has it’s own risk.

The public has many mix views on plastic surgery. Some believe that having plastic surgery is a waste of time and money. While others believe that are against plastic surgery is the best thing since sliced bread. People who are against plastic surgery believe that one should be spending their money enhancing their minds rather than their breast (or whatever body part they choose to enhance). People, who believe that plastic surgery is wrong, admire inner beauty. On the other hand, people who believe in plastic surgery will argue that they are judged on outer beauty so plastic surgery is necessary. Since the beginning of time people have had their opinions on whether plastic surgery is right or wrong and they will continue to based on the way they were raised.

Some people choose to have surgery because there was one time in their life where they were huge and they lost weight. After, they lost the weight they had extra skin that they just could not get rid of. Another reason someone would get plastic surgery is if they were born with a partial ear. Alarmingly, plastic surgery seems to increase every year about 20%. People are finding more and more reasons why they should undergo plastic surgery.

Is plastic surgery the right route for you? There are a lot of things to consider before you can answer this question. First you must consider the cost of plastic surgery because plastic surgery can be expensive. Even though plastic surgery is expensive you may want to check with your health insurance provider because it is possible that they cover certain procedures. For some people the cost means nothing. Another factor to consider is recovery time. Do some research on the procedure itself and find out everything there is to know about that particular procedure. Most importantly, ask yourself what this surgery means to you. If this surgery will ultimately improve your standard of living then I would say go for it! When you choose whether to have plastic surgery or not make sure you weigh all your options and do good research.
