Similarities Between Tube Cutting Machines and Wire Cutters
Have you ever used an automatic wire cutting machine before? If you have, you know how it can make a difficult job into an easy one by doing all of the work for you. You just need to set the machine so that it makes the right cuts at the right distances. You need to calibrate it to the wire that is being used so that the blades will function correctly. After that, though, there is nothing for you to do but watch. The machine will take what would have been hours of work by hand and turn it into the work of just a few minutes.
There are some interesting similarities between these wire cutters and modern tube cutting machines that should be explored. To begin with, you need to look at the similarities between tubes and wires. They can be found with the same basic makeup. A plastic tube is a long, nearly cylindrical product that is really very much the same as the plastic insulation that is wrapped around the outside of a bit of wire. The consistency is not very different, and they can come in the same colors. The only real difference is that the tube is hollow, allowing for the passage of liquids, while the insulation is filled with metal wire, allowing for the passage of electricity.
The main similarity is in the way that you will program both of the machines. Either one can be hooked up to a desktop computer. You can then load the proper software onto the computer so that it can interface with the machine. Modern tube cutting machines will allow you to enter all manner of data through this system, whether you are putting in the diameter of the tube or the length that you want it to be cut. You can also tell the machine if it should cut just once or if it needs to keep doing the same thing until you instruct it to stop.
This leads right to the next similarity, which is the ability of either type of machine to draw in the raw material through a system of gears and wheels. You do not need to feed it in by hand. You just need to have a spool hooked up at one end and a basket or catching system at the other end. The machine will pull the material in, cut it where it needs to be cut, eject the piece that was made, and then draw more of the material forward so that the process can be repeated. This takes all of the work out of your hands.
The main difference between tube cutting machines and wire cutters is in the blades that are used. Since tubes are just made of plastic, the blades do not need to be very sharp to cut through the material. Wires are made of light metals, though, so the blades need to be a bit sharper or they will just compress it without cutting. Either way, you need to remove the blades periodically so that you can have them sharpened.
